On Saturday, 13th March 2010, at 20:30 the Kominek Gallery in Berlin presents the series “Andzelika” by the Dutch photographer Wytske van Keulen.

For the series Wytske van Keulen accompanied the Polish girl Andželika over a period of five years.

“Go clubbing has become an integral part of nowadays social interaction. From ‘night life’ we expect pleasure, desire, fun and hilarity – at least this is suggested by advertising and society. The photo designer Hanna Witte questioned these expectations in her series Nacht.Leben. Her portraits reveal the world of the protagonists during a clubbing night. The images provide glimpses and avoid giving away to much from the stories behind. They tell about a different story of clubbing nights – loneliness, rejection and isolation, while being surrounded by many people.”

Hanna Witte’s series “Nacht.Leben” (night-live) has been photographed very clean, but the work is nevertheless convincing. – Sometimes I feel that the ‘design’ in photo design is a little bit too much weighted at the University of Applied Sciences in Dortmund.

Jakob Boerner’s series “Basic Care” shows interiors and portraits of welfare recipients in Germany and makes a nearly invisible population group visible.

There is a new print magazine for street photography, produced in London by Nick Turpin.

The launch edition of PUBLICATION features essays by Michael David Murphy, David Gibson, Nick Turpin and the work of photographers including Joel Meyerowitz, Tod Papageorge, Martin Kollar and Trent Parke.

As part of the exhibition “Ueber Tage – Pixelprojekt_Ruhrgebiet” which presents the Pixelprojekt_ Ruhr, the artist talk “A question of perspective: Approaches and impact of photography today” takes place at the Kunstmuseum Mülheim on 11th March 2010 at 7 pm.

Participants will be, among others, Peter Liedtke (photographer and founder of Pixelprojekt_Ruhrgebiet), Dr. Beate Reese (Director of the Kunstmuseum Mülheim an der Ruhr) and Prof. Thomas Weski (Professor at the HGB Leipzig).

“In Espaces Nomades Matthieu Gafsou deals with the relation of man to nature. He staged the conquest of the nearly virgin landscapes. Gafsou defines the nature as a construction, even as a fiction, to question the ways oft its representation and its alleged authenticity”.

Matthieu Gafsou, born in 1981, lives and works in Lausanne, Switzerland.

On the 06th March 2010 at 7 pm the Photo Academy Cologne opens the exhibition “Erste Klasse” (First Class) with works of the participants.

On the 17th April 2010 from11 am to 3 pm there is an open day. The instructors of the Academy are available for all questions about the training and the participants of the two current classes present their portfolios.

From 5th until 7th March 2010 students of the University of Applied Sciences Dormund present their diplomas under the title “Außerordentlich” (Extraordinary).

The works range from applied to artistic positions and show the wide range of different activities of the department of design. Opening is on Friday 5th March 2010 at 6 pm.
