BerlinPhotoWorkshops has new seminars on offer.
For the first time Peter Oehlmann runs the seminar “(Another) Street View“:

“I would like to invite you to a somewhat different Street View, for an open, questioning and wondering view on the city. – Whether you continue a work or begin a new project, I offer a critical and stimulating support during the process of image selection, editing and issues of presentation.”
For the second time Kai-Olaf Hesse’s one day workshop “Photo book or photo series?” deals with forms of presentation and its context.

“This workshop addresses the prerequisites for the content and design of an image series, which shall then be brought together to construct a photo book. – On the basis of participant’s own works and books, the workshop will discuss possibilities and critical aspects in regard to the presentation of photographs in book form.”

Göran Gnaudschun, Sommerakademie Dresden 2007
Like every year there are some good workshops offered by German Summer Academies. Here are some highlights:
The Summer Academy Dresden offers portrait photography with Goeran Gnaudschun, Ivan Baschang’s course provides a “Search For Traces” and Donata Wenders shares a “A Personal View on Dresden”.
The Summer academy Essen provides a course of portrait photography with Karin Geiger, Christiane Hantzsch examines the Ruhr area (in respect that Essen is European Capital of Culture in 2010), and Helmut Kloth teaches “Basics of Art Work”.
BerlinPhotoWorkshops has no regular Summer Academy in 2009, but offers nevertheless some courses worth mentioning:
Kai-Olaf Hesse’s workshop “Berlin / Myth as Present” guides through Berlin, looking for images which capture a visual “gut feeling” of the bustling city. And again Goeran Gnaudschun offers a one-week seminar for portrait photography in August.

Although there are some respectable state-run schools for photography in the Rhine Ruhr area, there are quite few high-quality offers of free schools. Based on this I suggested BerlinPhotoWorkshops to offer workshops in the Rhine Ruhr area, hosted in cooperation with The Sonic Blog.
Kai-Olaf Hesse breaks the ground with his seminar “The Built Environment and Documentary Strategies”. The workshop starts in April 2009 at the studio house in Duesseldorf. The application period runs up to 31. March 2009. Further information is available on the workshop page or directly at BerlinPhotoworkshops.

The web page “Fotografiestudium in Deutschland” provides an overview of the photography courses in Germany, completed by a plurality of additional information.
“Fotografiestudium in Deutschland” is a project of the study course Angewandte Kommunikations- und Medienwissenschaft of the University Duisburg-Essen and of the DGPh.
Nice, but still expandable, is the column “Interviews“, where graduates speak about their experiences.
