ANTIFOTO starts where photography ends – and starts again. Invited by the Kunstraum Düsseldorf – a municipal art-space – ANTIFOTO was developed and organised by the artists Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber.
ANTIFOTO also was established to show the various aspects of the medium photography. In the first exhibition under the banner ANTIFOTO Stuke and Sieber present ten international photographers. Different approaches are recognisable which also mirror a different understanding of what photography actually is or what it can be.
Next to the photo exhibition of the project ANTIFOTO which will take place once a year Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber have founded the Böhm-University. During the time of the exhibition there will be here a loose series of lectures to which experts of different disciplines are invited.

On the occasion of Ruhr 2010, Essen as European Capital of Culture, the Savings Banks Finance Group has pooled some money and asked Thomas Weski to accomplish something special for the Ruhr area.
For the exhibition “Ruhr Views”, Thomas Weski invited the photographers Hilla Becher, Laurenz Berges, Joachim Brohm, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Andreas Gursky, Jitka Hanzlová, Candida Höfer, Matthias Koch, Elisabeth Neudörfl, Jörg Sasse and Thomas Struth to provide their distinct view on today’s Ruhr area.
I miss some young guns in this heavy weight line-up, but anyway doubtless a must see of the season. “Ruhr Views” is on display from 24th April to 24th September 2010 in the SANAA building in Essen.
