“I landed in the hostel shortly before Italy failed its last chance in the Soccer World Cup, where I learned that I was only 15 minutes walk from the legendary FC Liverpool stadium. (…) I found myself walking along a very narrow street among small brick-houses, no one around; in the background was the stadium and some loud music was coming from the corner. I suddenly saw a guy jumping up the wall and throwing the ashes of the barbecue on the other side of it, into the abandoned house’s backyard.
He was celebrating his 20th birthday on the street together with his twin sister, some friends, the grandfather, and the niece. I right got a beer too and we partied on late in different houses on the street; I came back everyday for four days: together, we visited the granny, went back to the supermarket three times a same day, ate fish and chips and chocolate, while Mel and her daughter continuously tried to find out who loves whom more: ‘I love you!’, ‘and I love you 2′, ‘but I love you 3!’, ’so I love you 4′.” – Chiara Dazi

Margaret M. de Lange’s series “Daughters” is a mix of a deep draft of Sally Mann with a small splash Jock Sturges and Anders Petersen. Maybe a little too sweet, but very beautiful.

“These photographs examine Ethiopian immigration into the United States to discuss greater issues of assimilation of cultures within the world today. My interest in the Ethiopian community stems from an estranged relationship with my father, who emigrated from Ethiopia to the Midwest in the early 1980s.” – Zach Abubeker

probably one of the main driving forces within my work for me is my necessity to find out more about the structures and mechanisms of social situations and developments as well as generating ways of communication that involve the viewer in the process.

Recently I featured here the series “re:green” by Matthias Walendy. I found his topic Urban Gardening very interesting, so I asked Matthias for an interview and I’m very glad that he agreed.

Peter Feldhaus (PF): In your final work for the Ostkreuz School “re:green” you examine the return of the gardens into the city and you take a look at current phenomenas like Guerilla Gardening or Intercultural Gardens. How do you discovered this topic for your final work?
Matthias Walendy (MW): I’ve always been interested in topics like environment, environmental protection, nature and society. At the same time I was always fascinated by the urban. And the human is always important to me. more…

“Angelo and Angela have lived together in South Eastern Sicily with their daughters Hybla, Lua and Siria, since 2005.
They chose this place to build their home and their life. A simple life. They chose to be careful about the food they eat and the education they give their children who were all born at home. With the same convictions, they use alternative energy sources (such as wind turbines and solar panels) that allow them to live independently of a mains electricity supply. They only buy organic and locally grown food.” – Simone Donati about ‘Valley Of Angels’
