“The project is envisioned as a discontinuous mapping of alternative housing models that exist in and around Rome. This discontinuity traces the unique expansion of these models and their essentially transitory nature. It is a rethinking of the concept of abusivismo, (understood here not only as unauthorized occupation of a space, but also as the transformation of the space itself, of its functions and aesthetic order) as generator of détournement and dérive and therefore incompatible with the illusion of city planning.” – Alessandro Imbriaco about ‘Temporary Autonomous Zone’

“I use the term [situ art] to refer to art created at or in relation to a specific place (’in situ’). However, these projects at public places like airports, railway stations or office buildings don’t portrait concrete venues but rather capture the essence of a situation: a gathering of people linked by common goals or interests and the desire to communicate with each other and their surroundings.” – Jürgen Scriba

“Photography is female. – Women take photos with gut instinct and men with their brains. And that’s not possible with the brain.”

Matthias Walendy, one of the this year’s graduates of the Ostkreuzschule explores in his work “re:green” the Urban Gardening Movement in Berlin.
“The work ‘re: green’ deals with the city people’s desire to find back to nature.
Is it the desire to indulge into something that has a prescribed sequence, to which man has no great influence? In a society in which he is constantly busy with his life, his work, to coordinate his schedule, he seeks for the moment when he is not determining, but is determined.” – Matthew Walendy about re:green

“My photographic search for traces started only a few months after the closure of the company. A partial demolition by the new owners had already begun – old interiors and traces of the old order were still present. I visualized this disappearing. During my visits I got in contact with former employees of the mail-order house Quelle. They told me about their personal stories.”- Stefan Koch about “Meine Quelle Geschichte”
