BerlinPhotoWorkshops present their new summer workshops 2011. Among others Eva Leitolf offers the one-week workshop “Stories” from 25th to 30th July 2011.

“We will deal in detail with the various photographic traditions of storytelling. In reference to this we will develop individual concepts and approaches for own personal projects.”

The summer academy Fotografie Forum Frankfurt offers the workshop “A life with photography” with Celina Lunsford, Artistic Director of the Photography Forum Frankfurt, on 21st and 22nd May 2011.

“The aim of this seminar is to assist you in developing your own photography starting from your current level. You will be able to figure out what matters to you when you take photos and what you have to change in your current approach.”

The Lichtblick School in Cologne offers the weekend seminar “Killing Time in Paradise” with Harvey Benge on 28th and 29th May 2011.

“In the workshop with Harvey Benge you will learn a lot about creating your own visual language. You start with generating visual ideas, followed by the editing and sequencing of the photographs found in urban life and finally the presentation of the series in exhibitions or in publications.”

Debby Huysmans - Sibir

“The two longest rivers of Russia, the Yenissey and the Lena, guide the photographer through the contemporary Siberian landscape. Debby Huysmans concentrates on the individuals, living in these forgotten areas and the signs of human presence in relation to the landscape.”

Ute Behrend – Das Zimmer hinter der Wand

Posted by (PF) at 7:00 ...

Ute Behrend - Das Zimmer hinter der Wand

“In Doris Lessing’s novel ‘Memoirs of a Survivor’ a woman lives in a world that increasingly seems to break. One day she discovers a wall in her apartment, where she can walk through. The wall leads in a Room where she experiences scenes from her childhood, from the perspective of today’s adult woman.

This part of the story I have taken as a template for a project with disabled and non disabled people to during my residency at the Dr.Dormagen-Guffanti Foundation. The starting point here was the look inside, because we live in a time when our imagination is no more challenged by the increasing media images flood.” – Ute Behrend about ‘Das Zimmer hinter der Wand’ (The Room behind the Wall)

Friday Quote: Fyodor Dostoevsky

Posted by (PF) at 7:00 ...

“It wasn’t the New World that mattered…Columbus died almost without seeing it; and not really knowing what he had discovered. It’s life that matters, nothing but life — the process of discovering, the everlasting and perpetual process, not the discovery itself, at all.”

Fyodor Dostoevsky, 1821 – 1881

Justin Partyka - Field Work

“These photographs were made between 2001 and 2008 in the East Anglian counties of Norfolk and Suffolk. They tell the story of what is left of the region’s agrarian community – the stoical small-time farmers who continue to work the fields because it is the only way of life that they know.” Justin Partyka about ‘Field Work’

Nick Hannes - Mediterranee

“The series is part of a book about the Mediterranean region I’m working on. This temporary edit contains photographs of the Spanish coast between Tarifa in Andalucia to Barcelona in the north of Spain. Virtually the whole coastline has been affected by mass tourism and construction industry.” – Nick Hannes

Jasper Groen - A Portrait for Breakfast

“In the course of one year, 12 months or 52 weeks I post every workday a portrait on this website. As usual in my photography the focus will be on youngsters. The models are selected for their fashionable attitude, lifestyle or special talents. Most of them are spotted whilst walking in the streets. The aim of this project is to collect portraits of the future generation of creative personalities.” – Jasper Groen about ‘A Portrait for Breakfast’
