David Goldblatt’s photographic projects are all occupied with the people, the work, the social constellations and the constructed and natural spaces of South Africa. With the retrospective “David Goldblatt – South African Photographs 1952-2006″, the Fotomuseum Winterthur pays tribute to the photographic work of Goldblatt.
David Goldblatt (*1930 in Randfontein), as an exemplary documentary photographer, has explored the violent, conflict-torn history of his country, constantly focusing on the political and sociological development of South African society, the social disunity and the turbulent political events during apartheid.

Auch sehr schön ist das Buch Intersections, darin sind allerdings ausschließlich Farbfotos zu sehen.

Ja, die “Intersections” sind klasse und stehen auch in meinem Bücherregal. Die Ausstellung war ja 2005 im Museum Kunst Palast in Düsseldorf zu sehen.
Die unglaublich schöne und zurückhaltende Farbigkeit der Prints kann das Buch, trotz guter Druckqualität, leider nur ungenügend wiedergeben.

Ein paar der Fotos aus Intersections waren auch in der Ausstellung Why Pictures Now in Wien zu sehen, ich war ebenfalls sehr beeindruckt von den Abzügen. Natürlich kann das Buch da nicht mithalten. Wobei ich finde, daß ein Buch wiederum andere Vorteile hat, und die Druckqualität von Intersections schon sehr gut ist. Viele der Landschaftsfotos haben mich an Joel Sternfelds American Prospects erinnert.
