LeadAwards 2007: Edmund Leveckis – Tales from the Underground

The New York-based architect Edmund Leveckis got the LeadAward 2007 within the category photojournalism for his excellent photo series „Tales from the Underground“. In the photography section of the LeadAwards 2007 are worth a look as well: Will McBride, Mirko Borsche, Erwin Wurm and Achim Lippoth. Street Photography and Law

Street photography and law: The German photographer Andreas Herzau has been sued by a person he photographed on the streets during the World Cup Soccer 2006. The picture was published in Herzau’s book “Deutsch Land”. The case has been cleared out of court finally (Herzau paid a fee of 1000 Euro). I use this occasion to discuss the legal aspects of street photography in general, because it seems to be an international problem. “WEEGEE’s Story” in Berlin

Weegee’s legendary pictures of New York from the thirties and forties recorded a city marked by unemployment, poverty and mob violence. He was the first news photographer allowed a police radio in his car. Racing through Manhattan’s streets after midnight, he often beat the cops to the scene of the crime to shoot the pictures which would scream from the pages of the Daily News and the Daily Mirror next morning.
