Achim Lippoth

As already mentioned in the article below the photographer Achim Lippoth, who is specialized in photography of children, won the Lead Award 2007 silver within the category fashion. His portfolio site is worth a visit. Specially the series “Rage Attack”, “Together” and “Album de Famille”.

LeadAwards 2007: Edmund Leveckis – Tales from the Underground

The New York-based architect Edmund Leveckis got the LeadAward 2007 within the category photojournalism for his excellent photo series „Tales from the Underground“. In the photography section of the LeadAwards 2007 are worth a look as well: Will McBride, Mirko Borsche, Erwin Wurm and Achim Lippoth. Just select the names in the LeadAwards 2007 laureates list to see the related work.

Recently I visited my local book store and skimmed through some photo books. “The Helsinki School: New Photography by TaiK. Volume 2″ was one of my discoveries. Specially Maarit Hohteri.

Street Photography and Law

Street photography and law: The German photographer Andreas Herzau has been sued by a person he photographed on the streets during the World Cup Soccer 2006. The picture was published in Herzau’s book “Deutsch Land”. The case has been cleared out of court finally (Herzau paid a fee of 1000 Euro). I use this occasion to discuss the legal aspects of street photography in general, because it seems to be an international problem. “WEEGEE’s Story” in Berlin

Weegee’s legendary pictures of New York from the thirties and forties recorded a city marked by unemployment, poverty and mob violence. He was the first news photographer allowed a police radio in his car. Racing through Manhattan’s streets after midnight, he often beat the cops to the scene of the crime to shoot the pictures which would scream from the pages of the Daily News and the Daily Mirror next morning.
